“Flowers Don’t Grow Here” to screen at the Frontline Club

Award-winning documentary “Flowers Don’t Grow Here” is to screen at London’s Frontline Club at 4.30pm on Sunday the 16th September 2007. The screening will be followed by a Q+A with director Shira Pinson.

Described as "a haven and a forum for war reporters" the Frontline Club in Paddington, London, was founded in 2003 by Vaughan Smith (Frontline Television News) as an agency for British cameramen who specialised in covering war zones. Today, the club also stages film screenings and debates about current affairs and journalistic issues.

More International Festival Selections for “Flowers Don’t Grow Here”

Documentary “Flowers Don’t Grow Here” has been selected to screen at the Ten Feet Away International Festival (26th – 29th July 2007): a multi-disciplinary festival in London for, about and by homeless people.

The film has also been selected to screen at DOCS-DF – Mexico City International Documentary Film Festival (29th September – 6th October 2007) - in the “Intercultural Cinema” section.

“Flowers…” has also been selected for the 9th Sichtuan TV Festival in China (28th – 30th October 2007) in competition for the International “Gold Panda” Awards for Documentary.

“Flowers Don’t Grow Here” wins at The End of the Pier International Film Festival

“Flowers Don’t Grow Here” made a big impact at The 4th End of the Pier International Film Festival on audiences and judges alike. A visibly moved audience emerged from the cinema following the screening at The Hotham Arts Centre. "Of all the films I have seen this weekend this is the one that will stay in my mind most of all" said one festival visitor. "It was very, very powerful". Adjudication panel members were equally impressed, awarding the film The Monika Smith Trophy for Best Documentary. Screenwriter Allan Scott commented on the extraordinary access demonstrated in the piece, which also scored highly in the category of Best European Entry”.

The film has recently been selected in competition for the 9th Thessaloniki Documentary Film Festival (Greece) in March 2007.
